Installing on a Mac, or not installing at all
A shared machine changes the calculation. Installing a desktop terminal on a Mac that other people in the household use means their session sees the software too, and installing on a work laptop is often not permitted in the first place. The browser platform sidesteps both cases: it opens a tab, runs the same account and closes without a trace.
Where the Mac is genuinely personal, the desktop terminal is worth the install. It keeps a workspace between sessions, which matters during the evening hours when the American session is open and a trader may sit with the charts for a while rather than glancing at them between other tasks.
Neither route is exclusive, and neither has to be decided once and for all. The same account opens in the browser at midday and in the desktop terminal at night, the open positions look identical in both, and moving between them requires nothing more than signing in again.
